God’s Faithfulness and Goodness is Great

Think back, if you’re old enough to, to June, 1962 – or visit that time in memory with me.

My thoughts return to my high school graduation, one month earlier. Now, on some day in June, we are loading the very last items from the house on to trucks driven by my uncles as Mom and I prepare to move to her new home forty miles south on Highway 16 in eastern Montana. One of those uncles had assisted our Dad (who had died on March 31) with the details and process of purchasing that house for Mom.

One of the final heavy items brought out of the house was the piano that had been purchased when I was in about first grade. It had replaced the old upright player piano that had served the house through the ’40s. Now that newer studio piano sat on the open truck bed in the open summer air.

Before it was to be completely tied down, covered, and protected from the wind of the upcoming drive, I asked Mom if I could sit down there in the open air and play it one more time on the farm. She said yes – so I hopped up on the truck bed, sat down and played Great Is Thy Faithfulness from memory, so enjoying those familiar chords ringing out with no walls to hinder.

Recently I chose to spend some days meditating on and reading about and internalizing wonderful truths about the sheer GOODNESS of God that is open for us to receive, simply by our choice to TRUST Him.

The verses below are a gathering of bottom-line blessings from that reading and meditating.

~ THE GOODNESS OF GOD ~

Psalm 34:8 “Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!”

II Peter 1: 2, 3 “Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him  who called us through His own glory and virtue.”

Psalm 107:1 “Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.”

Jeremiah 31:12, 14 (People) “…shall stream to the goodness of the lord;…My people shall be satisfied with My goodness.”

Psalm 31:19 “Oh, how great is Your goodness, which You have laid up for those who fear You, which You have prepared for those who trust in You in the presence of the sons of men!”

Isaiah 26:3 “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.”

Psalm 33:20-21 “Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield. For our heart shall rejoice in Him, because we have trusted in His holy name.”

Romans 5:2 ” …through Whom we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand and rejoice in hope of sharing the glory of God.”

Lamentations 3:25 “The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him.”

Psalm 9:10 “And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; for You, LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.”
